Al Hitmi targets international mileage
QATAR Gymnastics Federation (QGF) President Ali Ahmed Al Hitmi exuded confidence that the Great Britain artistic team’s week-long camp in Doha would give them a lot of international mileage.
“In the past, we had invited Australia, Indonesia and some Arab nations. But Great Britain’s visit was an important one because they won five medals at the Rio Games. We’re happy that they preferred Doha. It’s something that we’re proud of because they’re one of the best teams in the world. Their positive feedback is important for us,” Al Hitmi told Doha Stadium Plus.
“I thank the Qatar Olympic Committee for its support. The British team’s visit was part of its sports tourism programme,” he added.
Asked if the QGF would send its team to the UK as part of an exchange programme in future, Al Hitmi said, “We don’t have the budget right now for overseas camps, but we hope to send some of our juniors to the UK in future.”
Qatari gymnasts also had the opportunity to train with their British counterparts during the camp.
“Our gymnasts trained with them mostly in the afternoons. It was a good learning experience for them,” said Al Hitmi.
