China, Qatar get down to business at Aspire Dome
DOHA: The Aspire Dome is getting into shape to host the region’s first gymnastics World Championships with China, Chinese Taipei and Brazil have already arrived here.
The Chinese contingent had a light workout while the host nation Qatar also had a feel of the apparatuses on Sunday.
A total of 78 countries with over 600 gymnasts have confirmed their participation for the Worlds, which will be held for the first time in the Arab region.
Qatar will be the third Asian nation to host the Worlds after Japan (1995 & 2011) and China (1999 & 2014).
Meanwhile, the Local Organising Committee office has become fully functional at the venue with the officials putting their efforts to fine-tune the preparations.
“Everything is in order and the venue will be ready within a couple of days before the official training on October 20,” said LOC Deputy Venues Manager Feras Ahmed.
The official launch ceremony will be held at the Westin Hotel here on the morrow with the presence of LOC top brass.The Opening Ceremony will be held on October 25 at 8.30am with delegations of all participating countries in attendance.
