‘Doha will deliver stunning Worlds’
QATAR Gymnastics Federation Technical Secretary Anis Saoud exuded confidence Doha would deliver one of the best World Championships.
“We’re proud that we’re hosting the competition next year and we’re hopeful it would be a stunning event just like the way we organise the annual FIG Artistic Individual Apparatus World Cup,” said Anis.
Doha will become the fourth Asian city, after Sabae (Japan, 1995), Tianjin (1999) and Nanning (2014), both in China, to host the Worlds.
“Doha has organised several top international events in other disciplines in recent years. It truly deserves this honour as its organisational ability has been world-class,” said Anis, who is also Asian Gymnastics Union’s (AGU) Technical Manager.
The Tunisian official said the AGU, under the presidency of Qatar’s Abdulrahman Saad Al Shathri, has chalked out several steps to popularise the sport on the continent.
“As a token of appreciation, the AGU offered cash prizes for the first time to team and individual winners at last month’s Asian Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Incentives are also one of the important elements in a sport’s growth,” he said
