Romania's Dragulescu speaks after the first subdivision
DOHA: Comments from eight-time Worlds gold medalist Marian Dragulescu of Romania after the first subdivision of men’s qualifications at Aspire Dome on Thursday.
On why he performed a simpler vault than his namesake “Dragulescu,” and why he chose to perform only one vault (note: to try to qualify for the apparatus final on vault, a gymnast must perform two different vaults in qualifications):
“I have had some problems with my Achilles tendons - tendinitis in both - so my preparation was one or two weeks going OK and then one week of rest. You cannot build something when you go up and down. I was thinking to be safe since I’m not ready. Health is more important.”
