Germany's Nguyen speaks after MAG eighth subdivision qualifications
DOHA: Comments from Marcel Nguyen of Germany after the eighth subdivision of men’s qualifications at Aspire Dome on Friday.
On his performance.
This was not the best competition. You always have to have a little bit of luck, and today was not my day.
On his fall from horizontal bar.
I thought I was too close (to the bar), so I rotated over a little. I usually do that if I think it’s too close. But at that moment, I saw the bar was not too close but normal, and it was too late to catch the bar.”
On the German team’s performance (ranked seventh in team standings after eight of 10 subdivisions).
It was a difficult competition for us, but I think it was the same for other teams. It’s not the end. I think we are at least in the top 24 so we can go to the next World Championships as a team, so that was the main goal. We have to think about the other things and maybe change our routines a little.”
On his motivation, six years after winning all-around silver at the London Olympic Games.
I still love this sport. It’s my passion. I think my team needs me at the moment to qualify for the next Olympics, so that’s what keeps me going. My body is in better condition than it was a few years ago. I’m still having fun doing gymnastics and trying to improve.
