Great Britain’s Bevan speaks after MAG ninth subdivision qualifications

DOHA: Comments from Great Britain’s Brinn Bevan after the ninth subdivision of men’s qualifications at Aspire Dome on Friday.

On the British team’s performance (ranked fourth, after nine of 10 subdivisions).

We had a few mistakes but we’ve brushed off the cobwebs. Hopefully that will give us the confidence to come back in the team final, put out some better performances and challenge for a medal.

On his mistake on horizontal bar.

I did the cross hop full turn and just missed my hand. I managed to regrasp and stay on, but I came down the wrong way.

On improvements needed for the team final.

It’s just qualifications, so it’s better to make the mistakes now. We’ve got a couple of days before the team final, so we can go back into training and learn and adapt. Hopefully we can come back in the team final and make improvements on the things that we made mistakes on today.

On the British team’s medal prospects in the team final.

Anything is for the taking. I’d love to say that we can walk away from here with a team gold. That’s always the aim, but ultimately it’s to put out our best performances. And if, with our best performances, we manage to walk away with a medal, it’s happy days. That’s exactly what we want.”

On the British team in Doha, compared to its silver medal-winning team at the 2015 of which he was part.

This is a fresh team. The whole team is a lot younger. It’s a new generation. For Dom (Cunningham) it’s his first World Championships. For Joe (Fraser) it’s his second, but he’s still a bit of a baby and he’s just getting the experience.
