Great Britain's Downie speaks after WAG 9th subdivision qualifications
DOHA: Comments from Rebecca Downie of Great Britain after the ninth subdivision of women’s qualification at Aspire Dome on Sunday.
On the British team’s performance (ranked ninth after nine of 11 subdivisions; eight teams advance to the team final):
“Overall the team did a relatively good job. I had a bit of tough time coming into the championships. I think we have gone out there and gave our best. It is a bit of a disappointment not to make the team final.”
On her performance on uneven bars (ranked eighth on that apparatus after nine of 11 subdivisions; eight gymnasts advance to the apparatus final):
“The first half could have been a little bit better. I was a bit rushed, but then the second half was pretty nice. Hopefully it will be enough to go through (to the apparatus final on uneven bars), and we can build on from that.”
On the British team’s problems on balance beam:
“We don’t necessarily have the best reputation on beam. I know that the girls have been working really hard on that, and I think overall it was a bit shaky but still more solid that what we put out in the European Championships (in August). It was not our best, but we will keep building.”
