Hurd speaks after winning WAG All-around bronze

DOHA: Comments from Morgan Hurd of the USA after winning a bronze in the women’s All-around final on Thursday.

On her performance:

“Vault, bars and floor went really well. I’m not completely happy with beam. I had kind of a large mistake. I’m not satisfied, and I would rather it have been little better, but that’s OK. It happened. I was trying to be a little too perfect.”

On nearly falling on balance beam in the third rotation (she had to grab the beam to stay on the apparatus):

“I just was a little too squeezed in, wanting to be too perfect.”

On if she felt pressure before she performed on floor exercise in the last rotation:

“I definitely did but I just wanted to go out there and have fun, and do a really great performance.”

On her team-mate and all-around gold medalist Simone Biles:

“I think we play off each other’s energies and keep each other having fun. It’s absolutely insane that she fell twice. It definitely pushes me to be such a better gymnast, and if I can’t reach her in difficulty, I definitely want to catch her with my execution.”

On if this year’s World Championships were harder for her that the 2017 Worlds, where she won all-around gold:

“It is kind of hard to say because they are very different circumstances. Last year it was my first time, so I did not really know what to expect. This year I came in basically as a veteran, and I had a lot more expectations of myself.”
