It’s going to be an important moment for all of us, says Al Jabir
DOHA: Qatar Gymnastics Federation Secretary General Mohammed Al Jabir, who is also the Competition Manager, felt that it will be a big opportunity for everyone to witness a galaxy of stars during the 48th FIG Artistic World Championships here in October.
“It’s going to be an important moment for all of us as it will be maiden World Championships hosted in the region. For the gymnasts, fans or officials, the competition will be an opportunity to watch the world’s best in action,” said Al Jabir.
The Doha edition is the first time that a mega gymnastics event will be held in the region.
The Qatari capital is the venue of one of the FIG World Cup Series editions, which has given it a pride of place among the elites.
“The gymnasium at the Aspire Dome is one of the world’s best. Several top gymnasts have performed here during the World Cup Series in the last one decade,” added Al Jabir.
This year’s World Cup Series saw Olympic champion Kohei Uchimura in action, but the Japanese legend failed to win a medal.
In fact, several top performers including reigning world all-around champion Xiao Ruoteng took part in the competition in March, which was a test event for the World Championships.
“It’s an honour for us to host such big names. We expect more thrilling action in October,” added Al Jabir.
