Mexico’s Moreno enjoys competitive encore “just for me”
DOHA: Three-time world vault finalist Alexa Moreno temporarily retired after the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, but before too long she realised she wanted to give herself a competitive encore.
Moreno, who resumed training in February, has come to the 48th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships with a new sense of wonder and purpose.
“I did what I could, but I can do a little bit more,” the 24-year-old told www.worldgymdoha18.com after her training session on Saturday. “It’s something I want to find out, just for me.”
“I was missing the training, and I didn’t feel satisfied. Actually, I think the coming years are more for me, because I want to enjoy gymnastics a little bit more.”
Moreno, who placed seventh in the vault final at the 2011, 2014 and 2015 Worlds, said advancing to any final here would be a bonus, not a goal.
“Whatever I do, I want to do it all right, and do all my work,” she said. “If I could make the vault final it would be amazing, but I can’t tell you for sure I’ll be there. I’m just going to do my part.”
