Mickevics praises Aspire Dome lighting arrangement
Doha: FIG MAG President Arturs Mickevics exuded confident that Doha will have an excellent 48th FIG Artistic World Championships.
Mickevics was on a visit to the city to attend the Asian Gymnastics Union meeting.
“Doha will have a successful event. The Aspire Dome venue is a perfect one for the sport as the lighting arrangements are excellent,” said the Latvian.
“The Qatar Gymnastics Federation has a lot of experience in hosting big events including the annual Artistic World Cup in March. I think the Worlds will be one of the best in history,” he added.
There had been lot of injuries incidents during the previous Worlds and, Mickevics felt the faulty lighting arrangements is one of the reasons.
“The number of injuries were more in Glasgow and Montreal. Though there may be other reasons, but not having proper lighting may be one of the reasons as a strong or weak light could blur the vision of a gymnast,” said Mickevics.
Before the Worlds, Doha will host the FIG World Cup series. The annual event, which will be the 11th edition, will help the Qatar Olympic Committee and QGF prepare itself for the mega event the iconic Aspire Dome from October 25 to November 3.
