Petrounias wants to build a club for kids
DOHA: Eleftherios Petrounias is not a Greek god, but he is certainly the ‘Lord of the Rings’.
The 27–year-old reigning Olympic, double world, European and European Games champion is still in great and would be looking forward to defend his title at the FIG Artistic World Championships, which starts here in October.
He won the gold at the 2016 Rio Games and then bagged his second successive title at the Worlds in Montreal, Canada, last year.
Petrounias, who started this season with a bang, scoring 15.333 to triumph in the final of the FIG World Challenge Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, in March, wants to give something back to the sport.
“I want to build a gymnastics club which should be ready by September. I want to do it for the kids. With good coaches and equipments, the club will be one of the best in Greece,” Petrounias told gymnastics.sport.
On how he keeps himself motivated after so many years in the sport, the Greek said, “It’s not hard to be motivated. People are happy when I come home with a medal. This love from my fans gives me wings and power for the next competition.”
