Reactions from Croatia's Tin Srbic after MAG 2nd subdivision
DOHA: Comments from 2017 world horizontal bar champion Tin Srbic of Croatia after the second subdivision of men’s qualifications at Aspire Dome on Thursday.
On his performance on horizontal bar, which put him in second place behind Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands after two subdivisions.
I was kind of scared. I usually don’t feel that way but this time was different. All the media in Croatia were telling me, ‘You’re defending your title, you’re defending your title,’ so it was a kind of pressure for me. But I think I handled it well and did a good job.
On improvements he plans to make should he qualify for the apparatus final on horizontal bar.
My Start Value was one-tenth lower than I planned, because I didn’t do the combination that I usually do. But in the final I’m preparing a 6.40 Start Value so it will be a lot better.
On whether his best performance will be enough for gold in the apparatus final. I hope this will be enough. I will do my best to regain the title, but I can’t talk that way because, with gymnastics, one slip of a hand and you’re off.
On competing in the same subdivision as former world horizontal bar champion Zonderland.
Epke is my role model. I’ve been watching him since I was 10 years old and he was already competing in these finals. He’s maybe the best high bar worker of all time, and I’m just proud to be in the same arena with him every time.
