Dalaloyan beats Xiao on tie-breaker, wins MAG All-around title
DOHA: In one of the closest battles witnessed in World Championships in recent years, Russian Federation’s Artur Dalaloyan overcame China’s defending champion Xiao Ruoteng on tie-break to win the men’s All-around title here at the Aspire Dome on Wednesday evening.
Both the gymnasts accumulated an identical score of 87.598 from six rotations, but the 22-year-old Moscovite took gold on a count back of each competitor's top five scores.
Dalaloyan’s compatriot Nikita Nagornyy collected 86.331 points for the bronze as the Russians broke into delirious joy after missing the team title by a whisker to China on Monday.
Japan’s Kenzo Shirai, who won a bronze at last year’s edition in Montreal, Canada, disappointed with a seventh-place finish (84.531).
There was disappointment for the USA's Samuel Mikulak, who went into the final round in third with a chance of all three medals but a high bar mark of 12.366 saw him finishing in fifth place.
