Verniaiev speaks after he won silver on parallel bars
DOHA: Comments from Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine after he won silver on parallel bars in the men’s apparatus finals at Aspire Dome on Saturday.
On his performance:
“It was not my best but I am so happy that I got a medal. It is very important for me after nine months off (because of injury). I was back for my first serious competition, and that is the best that I could have done. I did not train this routine. The last time I performed it was in Montreal last year (2017 Worlds). I started from zero.”
On comparing his routine to that of gold medalist Zou Jingyuan of China:
“He (Zou) is good and so strong. For the moment, I think I could have beaten him only if he failed. There was no other possible way. I am happy with what I have achieved today. I understood that I would be second. Next year I will need to change this goal.”
On his shoulder injury:
“It is better, but I need more time. I trained only for three-and-a-half months, so I just need more time.”
