We hope to make top-three finish, says China manager
DOHA: China, who topped medals tally at last year’s edition in Montreal, Canada, is aiming for a top-three team finish at the 48th FIG Artistic World Championships.
The Chinese team arrived here on Friday for their pre-event camp and their team manager Xie Feifan exuded confidence ahead of the prestigious event, which gets under way on October 25.
“We hope to make major impacts here with a top-three finish,” team manager Xie Feifan told worldgymdoha18.com on Sunday.
This year’s competition assumes a lot of importance for the Chinese team as the Doha Worlds will be first qualification event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Chinese men’s squad, who had a light workout on Sunday evening, comprises Olympic team bronze medalists Lin Chaopan, Deng Shudi and You Hao, defending world All-around champion Xiao Ruoteng, 2017 parallel bar champion Zou Jingyuan and Sun Wei.
“We’re mostly focusing on the team competition considering its importance as a qualifier for the Olympics. Though we hope to do well in individual events, but our major focus will be on the men’s and women’s team events,” Xie added.
The women’s team comprises of 2018 Asian Games All-around champion Chen Yile, Luo Huan, Du Siyu, Zhang Jin, Liu Jinru and Liu Tingting.
Feifan acknowledged the excellent hospitality since their arrival.
“The atmosphere at the Aspire Dome is really fantastic. This is a beautiful hall in all ramification. I think it was a very good decision that we arrived early as it helped us acclimatise,” said the Chinese official
