Whitlock, Wilson named in Britain's men squad
DOHA: Five-time Olympic medallist Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson were named in Britain's five-man team for the 2018 FIG Artistic World Championships.
“Very happy to be officially selected for this year’s World Championships. It’s always an honour to represent Team Great Britain,” tweeted Whitlock.
Wilson and Whitlock are joined by Dom Cunningham, Joe Fraser and James Hall for the competition here from October 25 to November 3.
The championships will be the first stage of the qualifying process for Tokyo 2020.
“The team is a blend of high calibre gymnasts who will support our ambition to challenge the world's best in the team event,” British Gymnastics Performance Director James Thomas told bbc.com.
The 25-year-old Whitlock became Britain’s first ever gold medallist in artistic gymnastics at the 2016 Rio Games when he won both the men’s floor and pommel horse exercises.
Wilson claimed bronze in the horizontal bar at the 2016 Olympics and was a member of the British silver-winning team in 2015 Worlds, the first world men's team medal in his country’s gymnastics history.
Cunningham recently won the floor title at this year’s European Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, while 19-year-old Fraser took the all-around title at the 2017 British Championships.The British women's team will be announced at a later date.
