Xiao reacts after winning pommel horse title
DOHA: Comments from China’s Xiao Ruoteng after he won gold on pommel horse in the men’s apparatus finals at Aspire Dome on Friday.
On his performance, which featured a difficulty score of 6.6, which was 0.50 higher than the difficulty score of the routines he performed in qualifications the all-around final:
“This is the routine I prepared especially for the apparatus final. I never thought I could perform my routine so well, with not even little mistakes. It met all of my expectations.”
On defeating two-time champion Max Whitlock of Great Britain in a tie-breaker:
“Max is a superstar, but he made some little mistakes, so I think I was a little better than he. Apparently the judges preferred my performance. It’s my honour that the judges admired it.”
On what he was thinking after he finished routine and made amusing hand gestures:
“(I was thinking), ‘Amazing. I’m the best’.”
